About Shapland Swim Schools

Shapland Swim Schools provide semi private classes of three, and teach our unique Swim in Five process. Classes are conducted in a specialized teaching pool which has been developed over the past 64 years. This successful formula, combined with experienced, caring and Industry qualified teachers, and a friendly, warm environment ensures everyone can learn to swim with ease and confidence.

Six Decades of Teaching My grandfather Thomas "Pop" Shapland was teaching swimming in Toowoomba in the late 1930s. His son Bernard "Bernie" Thomas Shapland and Dorothy "Tuppy" Shapland (my parents) secured the lease of the Toowoomba Municipal Baths (an old fill and drain pool) in 1947. Beware of blowing bubbles If you child is being taught to blow bubbles in the water as part of their Personal Aquatic Survival Skills then I need you to consider the following. Unless we have a very high percentage of body fat most humans will sink, if they are in a body of water, unless they have air in their lungs. It is for this reason that in the unique Shapland Swim in Five Process we do not teach our pupils to blow bubbles in the water until they are in the fourth and fifth step of our unique process.
